Newsletter 4/7 - Beginning of 7’s Season and First Scrimmage

Hello BRFC Alums,

Our newsletter is back as we are back in season with 7’s starting up. We are all very excited to be back and had a great time a couple of weekends ago down in Brunswick at a scrimmage with Bowdoin, Thomas, and UMaine.

In our first match, our B-side faced a talented and young UMaine B side. We started off strong and had three tries within the first four minutes of play. This trend continued throughout the rest of our matches, with BRFC sweeping the table, winning all of the matches we participated in.

Some of the highlights from the match include senior Hunter Norton’s interception returned for a try, sophomore and president Fernando Hokello’s breakaway and counter-attacking try in his first minutes back from injury, and sophomore VP Sam Fielder’s hard try saving tackle which fired up the team.

Though, nothing fired up the team more than the game-ending try by freshman sensation Stuart (Stu) Saltonstall which had the whole team celebrating with him in the try zone. Post-match we enjoyed a quick mid-afternoon social with the Bowdoin squad, and traded stories over pizza.

We are looking forward to our next challenge this weekend, where we will be going to UNH to play our first official tournament of the season. This tournament includes teams from UVM, Providence, Bowdoin, and others. We hope that we can continue this momentum and have a strong weekend.

Best,

Alumni Liaison,
